EXPORTING KAYAKS FROM ARAUCO During its four years of existence, this business has taken shape little by little. At present its owner is negotiating the expòrt of units to Central American and the Caribbean countries. Arauco.- Action Kayaks is a company located in Arauco that is dedicated to manufacturing kayaks. It consists of a young team with new ideas that have been achieved by harnessing the resources at hand. Guillermo Sánchez is the manager of the company. Having Spanish nationality arrived in Chile six years ago and at the beginning was attached to activities in the Forestry sector. However his passion for adventure sports created his initiative in this new venture. Just as he points out, one of the reasons why he got involved in this enterprise, is the great scenic richness and favourable settings that exist in the country in order to carry out the practice of nautical sports; also because rural tourism is a greatly increasing market. INNOVATORS He was one of the forerunners in our country in the manufacture of polyethylene boats, a material that adapts perfectly to that what you're looking for the moment you wish to practice this sport on water. Sánchez pointed out that after starting to manufacture these types of models in Arauco, several companies imitated what had been produced until that moment. However an undeniable fact is that they have been the forerunners in this activity. SALES Sánchez emphasized that most sales are made during December and January. The first year they got to sell 500 kayaks oughout the country. "It's for this reason that we have been developing the export market in order to sell during the whole year, even during the winter months", he pointed out. At this moment, more than 100 kayaks have been exported to Panamá, and from there we have made dispatches to other countries in that area. "The idea is to develop the exports to the Caribbean countries; we've a lot of contacts who inform us that there are kayak fans in Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Cuba. The only essential thing is to develop the plan with more time and resources". In Arauco, sales are carried out directly from the factory that is located in Chacabuco street, in front of the outbuildings of Liceo San Felipe de Arauco. . "By far we have got the best prices in Arauco; the ideal thing is that people don't have to go to Concepción to buy themselves a kayak, but they can do it directly in Arauco", added Sánchez. They have also made sales in internet through the address www.actionkayaks.cl. By means of this system we've made sales from Antofagasta to Chiloé and one of the objectives for this season is to expand the sales to Punta Arenas and Isla de Pascua.
